A VILLAGE cricket team has announced proposals to develop a new pavilion and has welcomed Worcestershire and former England star Graeme Hick as patron of the appeal.

Established in 1927, Worcester Nomads Cricket Club, in Bransford, is to embark on the £250,000 development as soon as possible. To get the ball rolling, there will be an appeal launch at Malvern Theatres on Tuesday, June 26, at 7pm.

Worcester architects Panton Sargent will unveil designs for the proposed new pavilion and Graeme Hick will also be present to officially accept his position in the proceedings.

The plans include enhanced changing facilities for men and women, full disabled access and a new bar, terrace and meeting room.

Nomads are hoping to raise 25 per cent of the project's quarter-of-a-million pounds cost to enable work to begin in the next six months.

Chairman of Worcester Nomads Nic Lloyd said the new pavilion would provide a friendly environment for the development of cricketers of all ages and abilities.

"The high-quality facilities will encourage participation and access to all members of the community," he said.

All members past and present of the club have been invited to attend the launch next week.

* Graeme Hick, who represented England for 10 years, recently won the BBC Midlands Sports Awards Special Achievement category when he became only the eighth batsman in the history of cricket to reach the milestone of 100 centuries for one county. In 2006 he scored 1,000 runs in an English summer for the 19th time. This week he passed 40,000 first-class career runs.
