YOUNG drummers at a Worcestershire school enjoyed a day of musical fun as part of their studies on Africa.

Children at Rushwick Primary School dressed in traditional African costumes before playing instruments and singing.

The day was part of a week of events, which also included a talk on the Gambia and a host of arts activities.

Headteacher Geoff Jeffrey said: "It was a really fantastic day and the children and teachers enjoyed themselves. It has been very interesting for them to find out about a different culture.

"We have had special guests come in to talk to the children and they are also going to be doing a performance of African music and singing for parents."

Mr Jeffrey said it would give pupils an idea of how people live in a different continent.

"Africa has such a rich cultural identity and we wanted to give our pupils an insight into this," he said.
