A Worcester News reader enjoying a balloon trip over the county has spoken of his amazement after he landed by chance at his parents' house.

Stewart Stone and his wife Karen were with an expert balloonist in the basket which took off from Malvern's Three Counties Showground on Friday morning.

They had been in the air for about an hour when the balloon drifted back to earth and landed in the paddock at the front of Mr Stone's parents' home in Longdon Heath, near Upton-upon-Severn.

Mr Stone said: "The pilot said, If you had paid me a million pounds to do this I couldn't have.' "As soon as my mother saw me it was a case of bacon butties and coffee all round."

"The weather was very iffy that morning and we were heading first towards Worcester and then Upton. It took a while to get my bearings from up there but when we were heading towards my family's home I knew where we were then. It was a great way to drop in to see your parents for breakfast, but it was a complete fluke."

Mr and Mrs Stone, who live in Columbia Drive, Lower Wick, had won the flight in a competition in the Worcester News, in conjunction with the Stroud and Swindon Building Society, after correctly answering how many branches of the building society there are in the country.

Mr Stone's stepfather Denis Patterson said: "We knew they had won a flight in a balloon but not that day. What a surprise it was for us. It's an amazing coincidence."

Mr Stone said the trip had been a great experience.

He added: "It's so peaceful and the views are brilliant. I'd recommend it to anyone."
