THE royal nose certainly sniffed out a top cheese at the Three Counties Show.
For when Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall toured the event's first Cheese and Dairy Produce Competition, they stopped by chance at the stand of Malvern Cheesewrights. Which just happened to have won the award for the most points in the show.
"We were absolutely chuffed," said Neil Cooper, Malvern Cheesewright's sales and marketing manager. "I asked the Prince if he fancied a nibble, but he said he hadn't got time. Still he now knows where to come if he wants a good cheese. We're not far up the M5."
The company makes organic and blended cheeses at its base just off the motorway at Whittington, near Worcester and achieved its top points total with three firsts and two second prizes in 12 classes.
The show's supreme champion cheese was the semi-soft St Oswalds made by Gorsehill Abbey Farm in Collin Lane, Broadway.
