ONE member of the Paws for Thought dog display team had a bit extra to think about after its performance at the Three Counties Show.

Jake, a Belgian Shepherd cross, was supposed to jump through a burning hoop. Just like he had done many times before Except he mis-judged his leap and caught the edge of the obstacle as he passed through.

To gasps from the crowd, the flames came a little too close to Jake for comfort.

Fortunately, he was none the worse for his mis-hap.

"We always take the most stringent precautions," said team organiser Stuart Brace. "There are always buckets of water on hand and flame blankets. In fact, two of the handlers are veterinary nurses, so there is expert assistance immediately available.

"Jake was checked by a vet straight away and he is fine. No problems at all."

The Worcestershire-based Paws for Thought team has been going for 10 years and is one of the top dog agility displays in the Midlands. Its 20 dogs range from a large Dobermann to a sparky little Llhaso Apso, plus one rather reflective Belgian Shepherd cross
