BACON sandwiches are going to be served at a Worcestershire children's centre to help celebrate Father's Day.

The WANDS centre in Droitwich, run by Worcestershire County Council, is welcoming fathers and male carers for refreshments and activities on Saturday, June 16, between 10am and noon.

Held at Westlands' Community Centre, Farmers Way, it provides a variety of services to meet the needs of parents with children up to 12 who live in Westlands, Chawson and the wider Droitwich community.

WANDS has been promoting services to fathers since it opened in May 2003. Over the last six months, a regular slot for dads has been up and running called Dads' Zone which is an activity-based session for dads and their children run by Rob Lovegrove, WANDS Fathers' Worker.

The session is held on Mondays from 3.15pm until 4.45pm in the Sunshine room of Westlands First School.

Judy Mayo, assistant programme manager at WANDS, said: "The group has just completed a six-week project at Bishops Wood Forest School. All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, learning more about the environment and ideas to carry on at home with their children."

More activities are planned over the summer for fathers and families.
