A LONER who put the lives of Worcester people in grave danger by causing a huge explosion is reported to be having odd thoughts and also hearing voices in his head.

Requests have now been made to move Christopher Wisocki out of custody and into a secure hospital. He could now face spending his life in prison.

We previously reported how the 22-year-old was found guilty of arson while reckless whether life was endangered after a jury at Worcester Crown Court heard how he set ablaze 10 litres of petrol he bought from a garage before fleeing his flat.

The fire, which took place on September 14 last year, spread from a staircase and ignited petrol vapour in his Droitwich Road premises, blowing out the window frames and causing serious damage to a bathroom and kitchen shop below.

Brickwork cascaded down into the street and on to a parked BMW car, but a security guard passing the scene alerted other residents in the first floor flats - and no one was injured.

A pre-sentence report was ordered and Wisocki could face life in prison.

But since the trial in February, there have been serious concerns about whether Wisocki is mentally ill. Defence council Abigail Nixon said: "Unfortunately, we have been waiting and waiting for the second report to deal with that issue and we have been beaten by his illness - he has deteriorated while in custody."

As a result, Judge David McEvoy ordered all necessary psychiatric reports to be completed by July 26 so that Wisocki can be sentenced and moved out of custody to a secure hospital if necessary.
