A HOLIDAY club for children in Worcester is in danger of closing because of falling membership.

The King's Squad, run by Westside Churches, has been taking place in the school summer holidays every year for the past 20 years.

It once attracted more than 200 children, but so far this year, only 30 children have signed up.

Spokesman Sarah Sheward said: "It will be such a shame if we have to end this holiday club. It has always been so popular. We really want to encourage more children to come along. We have lots of fun activities, including T-shirt printing, sports, crafts and bag making. We also work towards a performance at the end of the week with each squad performing something different."

Mrs Sheward said the decline of interest in the club was largely down to the increase in other activity clubs for children.

She said: "There are more clubs and playschemes for children in the holidays now, so I guess that is why we are not attracting the numbers that we used to get.

"We really hope that we can get enough children to come along this year as it would be a real shame to have to call it a day on the club.

"We can take children from all over Worcester, although traditionally it has been from the west side area."

The holiday club runs from Monday, July 23 to Friday, July 27, each day from 10am to 3.15pm at St Clement's Primary School in Henwick Road. It is aimed at children aged seven to 11 years and costs £25 for the week.

Mrs Sheward added: "The more children from one family that come along then the cheaper it is. We would encourage all parents to get their children involved. It will be a really fun-packed week with lots to do."
