TWO Local Police Officers (LPOs) and three Community Support Officers (CSOs) - all from Warndon police post - will be among those doing battle in the annual Worcester Dragon Boat Festival.

Although all work together at the same base, three will be in one boat and two in another - along with young people, aged between 12 and 17, from the Gorse Hill and Rainbow Hill wards, making up the teams of 16, plus a drummer.

Wayne Hurley, LPO for Gorse Hill, Ben Groves, CSO for Nunnery and Warndon CSO Erica Farraday, will paddle the Gorse Hill Gladiators boat, sponsored by West Mercia Constabulary and Armstrongs. Tolly Torpedos 1 - containing LPO Tina Cowan and CSO Matthew Harris, both of Rainbow Hill - is sponsored by Worcester Community Housing, Tesco, Individual Tailoring and Frances Brothers.

"We are extremely keen to do well, particularly as this is an initiative to help divert anti-social behaviour and promote healthy lifestyles," said LPO Cowan.
