PEOPLE are being reminded about the annual Race The Dragon Regatta which takes place in Worcester on Sunday.

The dragon boating event will see teams from local businesses, organisations, pubs, sports and youth clubs paddle it out on the river Severn to win cup and plate trophies.

Over the years the event - now in its 17th year - has raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes. This year money raised with go towards local youth activities.

The organisers, Worcester Dragons, say as well as a great day's competition, the regatta is also an opportunity to promote team building.

One team taking part this year are the Kendall Wadley accountants from Worcester and Malvern. The team of 16 staff and their families will be huffing and puffing and trying raise £1,000 for Leukaemia CARE.

Director Ken Jones said: "This is the first time we have entered a dragon boat race as a work team. Our training is going well and we are having a good laugh, as well as hoping to raise money for charity."

Crews can be made up of mixed abilities and ages, with a minimum age of 12, and no previous experience needed.

Refreshments and a barbecue will be available all day and spectators are encouraged to go along. Entry fees are £120 a crew, reduced to £60 for junior crews, and include qualified supervision and all equipment. Practice sessions can also be arranged.
