YOUNGSTERS from Claines, near Worcester, took a step back into the days of Ye Olde England at a fancy dress disco and were chosen to take pride of place in the church's 1,050th anniversary celebrations.

Sophie Laugher and Daniel Hooper are to dress up as a medieval knight and lady and will lead the procession from Claines Scout hut to St John the Baptist Church and open the mediaeval fayre on Saturday, June 23, during the church's weekend of fun and festivities. Anna Tainty and Mia Stevens will act as attendants. The weekend of events starts on Friday, June 22, at 1.30pm when Worcester Mayor Stephen Inman will open the proceedings, which include a flower festival, medieval fayre with a market, archery and games, and a special Sunday service service led by the Bishop of Worcester.

There will also be a display recording the history of Claines over the past 1,000 years.

Reverend Stephen Agnew said: "The church in Claines has always been at the heart of the community. We want everyone to come along and enjoy the history of this lovely building and have some fun at the same time."
