A MAN punched the window of a baby shop in Worcester during a mindless attack captured on the CCTV.

The man even had the bare-faced cheek to return to the same store in Worcester city centre minutes later to do a spot of window shopping with the very woman with whom he had been having a blazing row only a few minutes beforehand.

Alison Aston, who owns Kidz Baby Shop in Mealcheapen Street, reported the criminal damage to West Mercia Police the next day.

The eagle-eyed businesswoman noticed small spots of blood from the victim's hand left by the blow.

The £1,000 toughened glass was later found to be shattered.

The 50-year-old says a scenes of crime officer has obtained a DNA sample from the blood and hopes the culprit can now be caught following the incident at 1.54am on Sunday, July 24, which has left staff at the shop seething.

As if to rub salt in the wound, the CCTV footage even shows the man returning to the shop a few minutes later after patching it up with his femail friend to do some window shopping, laughing and pointing at baby clothes in the window.

Mrs Aston said: “It’s taking the mick. I own the business and it’s hard enough trading without having to deal with criminal damage. I hope he broke every bone in his hand.

“He’s even got the cheek to come back and look in the other window (the undamaged one). I would like him to hand himself in to the police or come into the shop and identify himself.

"It’s also an inconvenience. They have to come back and put the window in. But they have a DNA sample and he’s now on the database.”

CCTV shows the culprit throwing a powerful punch with his right hand but then appears to hold his hand behind his back as if in pain.

The woman with the man can then be seen pulling at him as the pair wrestle as they stagger off in the direction of New Street.

Mrs Aston says the business has eight CCTV cameras, which cover the inside, back and front of the shop which sells baby clothes and accessories. She now sees the CCTV as a very worthwhile investment.

She initially bought it because she said there were problems with street drinking, drug addicts and people smoking legal high Black Mamba who were "falling about all over the place" but now hopes it will prove useful in bring the vandal to justice.

A safety film has now been put over the shattered glass as a temporary measure until the glass is replaced which staff fear does not create a good impression for valued customers. The glass will cost £948 to replace.
