THE FRIENDS of a woman who has been given three weeks to live have walked from Worcester to Droitwich to help raise money for a hospice that has helped her.

Proceeds from the walk, which took place yesterday, will go towards St Richard’s Hospice.

Friends of Michelle Badger decided to take on the challenge after doctors said she had only three weeks to live.

Mrs Badger, from Droitwich, was diagnosed with breast cancer two-and-a-half years ago and although she was given the all clear following treatment, the disease later returned.

Husband Darren Badger said: "The walk was organised by my daughters and some friends.

"They all completed it.

"We don't know how much was raised yet but it will go to the hospice.

"The hospice has been very helpful to my wife with care at home and she is due to move in there.

"She's not doing too bad at the moment."

Kerry Quill, a close friend of Mrs Badger, said: “When I heard she had weeks to live I was shocked, it always happens to the best people. She was smiling when I saw her last night.“

Ms Quill, 36, who is landlady at the Fox and Goose, said the group wore neon clothes and tutus, in celebration of their friend’s bright personality.

She emphasised the bravery displayed by her friend of four years and said she has yet to see her cry.

Tara Howard, a bar lady at the Fox and Goose, said: “I want to do this because I lost my brother last year and although it wasn’t to cancer I know how difficult it is."

Ms Howard, of Westlands Estate, said both her uncle and grandmother’s partner received care at St Richard’s Hospice.

“The hospice helped them have a comfortable ending, it’s more like a home than a hospital bed,” she said.

Ms Howard said the walk was organised last week and 10 people were set to be taking part.

“Michelle’s daughters have been told their mum is weeks away from dying but they still haven’t taken it on board,” she said.

“We want to make people aware that there are good people out there if they want to donate.”

The group will walk the seven miles from Worcester to Droitwich through the night.

Ms Howard and Ms Quill are encouraging people to donate to St Richard’s Hospice online and have set up a Facebook page for their walk.

The Facebook page is called ‘Funds for Shell Badger’ and people can donate online here.

The money raised by the group will go to St Richard’s Hospice.
