A MOTHER is hosting a concert to raise money for St Richard's Hospice after the death of her son.

The Morriston Orpheus Male Choir, who have sung in front of the Pope, will perform at the concert in Pershore Abbey.

The performance will take place at 7pm on September 17 with ticket revenue going towards St Richard's Hospice.

Sue Fletcher has organised the concert in memory of her son, Paul Fletcher, who died in 2010 after battling five types of cancer.

Mrs Fletcher, from Droitwich, said: "I promised Paul I would keep his memory alive and this is to do that. Also St Richard's Hospice are second to none.

"They gave us support. They gave us a hug, a cup of coffee and time to talk.

"Paul went into St Richard's when he was terminally ill in November 2010 for pain relief but died a month later in December.

"He couldn't eat in the hospice so I would take him out for coffee in a wheelchair. I brought milkshakes in for him, when he couldn't come out."

Mrs Fletcher, 67, recalled her son joking that a milkshake was to die for despite being terminal, a sign of his enduring sense of humour.

Mr Fletcher, died aged 34, and would have been 40 this year if he had survived.

The Morriston Orpheus Male Choir, from Swansea, are only asking for their costs to be repaid in return for performing.

Mrs Fletcher and her husband have seen the choir in more than 200 concerts across the 20 years they have followed them.

Tickets can be bought from shops across Pershore, with 100 of the 360 tickets available already sold.

Blue clothing shop, Tappers shoe shop and the St Richard's Hospice charity shop in Pershore are all selling tickets.

Tickets will cost £15 if bought in advance or £20 on the door.

Mr Fletcher's family have taken part in a range of fund raising activities since 2010, raising around £20,000 for St Richard's Hospice.
