THE wards at an award winning mental health unit in Worcestershire have been renamed, with the help of patients, carers and volunteers.
New Haven, based at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital in Bromsgrove, houses a dementia ward and another for adults with serious mental health illnesses like depression.
The unit, run by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, offers support to patients across the county.
Staff at New Haven, who won the team of the year award at the trust's annual ceremony, worked with patients and families to rename the two wards.
The newly named Meadow Ward will continue to care for patients suffering with dementia and Woodland Ward will cater for patients with functional mental illnesses.
Natasha Lord, clinical lead at New Haven, said: "We are really pleased with the new names for our wards at New Haven and it has been enjoyable working so closely with patients, carers and staff to reach the final decision.
"We are trying to create a real home from home environment inspired by nature and the outdoors which looks and feels very different from traditional wards and units.
"It is great that we have two ward names which reflect the overall atmosphere we’re trying to create.”
