EDUCATORS have met to share ideas at a TeachMeet at Nunnery Wood High School.

It was the first global TeachMeet in the West Midlands and saw presentations from a variety of West Midlands schools and organisations on good practice in delivering global learning and development education.

Among those who attended were Peacemakers, B&C Consulting Ltd, BEACONS DEC as well as staff at Millfields First School and King Edward VI Camp Hill Girls school, Nunnery Wood High students, Zaytoun, The Infirmary Museum and Oxfam.

Liz Harris and Ruth Corall from Worcestershire County Council shared their Education for Sustainable Development resources including the inflatable Earth Balloon which was on display at the event.

The event was part of the EU funded Young People for a Change project being led by TIDE~ Global Learning. Students at Nunnery Wood who have been involved in the project have undergone young leader training with the University of the First Age and developed and delivered a workshop for young people on Sustainability in schools across the world.

Elena Lengthorn, the school's global learning programme expert centre coordinator, said: “I am tremendously proud of the students that have taken part in the programme, engaging with big sustainability issues through the Sustainable Development Goals and sharing them on a global stage with other young people across the West Midlands, Spain, Kenya and The Gambia.

"They have inspired other schools to take an active role in the sustainability of their community through Eco-Schools activities.”

The Global Learning Programme, Zaytoun and The Co-operative supported the event with prizes for a free draw at the end of the evening.

Cathryn Gathercole, director of TIDE~ Global learning said: “Every detail had been covered and the range of presenters and stalls meant there was something for everyone. Such a successful event.”

The TeachMeet took place on Wednesday, July 6 in the school studio.
