THE King's School, Worcester, was the venue for a training session about chess and maths.

The charity, Chess in Schools and Communities, provides funds to train volunteer tutors in primary schools.

They then teach chess to children, aiming to encourage planning ahead and logical thinking.

John Foley, the charity’s director of educational development and training, led a session to a group of local volunteers in Worcestershire.

He showed them the connection between chess moves and an array of mathematical skills, from counting to abstract thinking.

The session was organised by John Wrench.
