NEW stage curtains will let pupils at a Pershore school enjoy a better theatre experience.

The £1,000 curtains were installed at St Nicholas Middle School thanks to a donation from Persimmon Homes South Midlands.

The school had already installed a new stage and sound system but had run out of money to replace their worn out curtains.

Headteacher Andrew Best said: "We have been busy fundraising so we could revamp our existing theatre facilities, but the curtains really let it down.

"They were simply tired and old.

"We are thrilled that Persimmon Homes chose to award us the grant.

"We can now purchase new curtains which will provide the perfect finale to all our performances.”

The school had been named a community champion by the housebuilder, which is building a development called Wyre Meadows near to the school.

The scheme aims to support grassroots activities that improve the quality of life for local people.
