PUPILS at a Droitwich school held an afternoon tea to celebrate the retirement of a long-serving member of staff.

Lyn Checketts, the school's deputy headteacher, left Westacre Middle School in July after 40 years at the school.

During that time she played a number of roles including class teacher, head of year, SENCo, or special needs co-ordinator, and assistant headteacher.

During the afternoon tea, each year group spent time with Mrs Checketts, retelling favourite memories, singing her favourite songs and reading some of her favourite stories.

The school's end of year awards assembly ended with a whole school rendition of Coldplay's Viva La Vida, which was a song performed by the school choir when it was led by Mrs Checketts.

Donna Evans, headteacher, said: "After 40 years of service to the children and parents of Westacre, we wish Mrs Checketts a happy and well-earned retirement."
