VISITORS to Worcester Commandery will be able to explore the life as a civilian during the Battle of Worcester, at an event being held this August.

Characters from 1651 will be sharing their fascinating stories of Worcester, while it prepared for the final battle of the English Civil War.

The Royalist City Official will greet new arrivals who can witness the Wylde family as they turf out pillagers and plunderers. Visitors, if they are brave enough, can even by recruited by the Parliamentarian spy to help Cromwell’s cause.

The grounds of The Commandery will see a living history encampment featuring 17th Century cooking, military exercises and traditional children’s games.

Visitors can also enjoy refreshments at the special picnic spot in the gardens, and cakes and lunches in the canalside cafe.

Sarah Bourne, commandery events organiser, said: “We want to give our visitors a real sense of life at the end of August 1651 by introducing them to the fascinating variety of people who were involved and giving them an exceptionally fun day out.”

The event takes place on Bank Holiday weekend, August 27 to August 29. It will be open 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Monday, 1.30pm to 5pm on Sunday.

Entry to The Commandery and the special event is free to all Commandery card holders, and Worcester City residents if they produce a Worcester City Council tax bill.

Otherwise entry is £5.50 for adults, £2.50 for children. A family ticket costs £13.
