PERIOD costume from stage and screen has gone on display at an exhibition being held at Worcester Cathedral.

The Dressed for Drama exhibition has gone on display at the Cathedral's Chapter house, which opened with an official launch reception on Monday, August 1.

The exhibition features items from British television shows and films, including from popular programmes Downton Abbey, Mr Selfridge and Poldark, and productions including Wolf Hall and Oscar nominated The Danish Girl.

Dressed for Drama is exclusive to the Cathedral, with some of the 35 costumes from London costumiers having never been on public display before.

Peter Atkinson, the Dean of Worcester, said: “Some of the costumes have fascinating connections to the story of the Cathedral.

"The costumes of Henry VIII reminds us of his elder brother Prince Arthur, who died prematurely in 1502 and whose tomb you can see in the Cathedral.

"The medical costumes of a World War I soldier and nurse remind us of the many World War I names commemorated in the Cloister windows just outside the Chapter house.”

The exhibition runs throughout August, finishing on Bank Monday, August 29.
