A SCHOOL in Worcester is raising funds for charity at the click of a button with a website co-founded by a former county teacher.

A number of schools are signing up to the internet search engine everyclick .com, which generates funds for the user's chosen charity every time the website is used.

It was co-founded by Julia Felton, a former Worcestershire teacher, and has so far raised more than £220,000.

Christopher Whitehead Language College, in St John's, has so far raised almost £300 for its chosen charity, the Fresh Start Foundation, by using the search engine, which gives 50 per cent of its revenues to charities.

Headteacher Neil Morris said: "During April alone, even with the Easter holiday break, the students raised £295 just by searching the web. As a result, the Fresh Start Foundation is now able to buy food for 100 children in The Gambia for six months and sponsor other children to attend school.

"There is overwhelming evidence that there is a need for a new Christopher Whitehead College in The Gambia.

"The opportunity to make a difference is what we try to do. Everyclick makes a substantial change to a vulnerable community and is so easy to use."

Year Eight student Ben Newman said: "I think that everyclick is a great search engine because it gives to charity. We can now help children in The Gambia to have a new school, food and clothes and have a better future."

The Fresh Start Foundation is urging other schools, corporations and individuals to support their work by choosing everyclick.com to search the internet.

Rebecca Daffeh, education director of Fresh Start, said: "Funds raised from everyclick.com will contribute significantly towards our aims and objectives of building and sustaining an education and health and social centre in The Gambia.

"The money raised by Christopher Whitehead Language College is fantastic and will enable us to fulfill our commitment to the children and the wider community in the country."

Local schools campaigner Helen Donovan has also been using the search engine to raise funds for her daughter's school in Evesham.

She said: "It's a great way to give every day and it doesn't cost you a penny.

"All you have to do is choose which charity you want to support, make everyclick your home page and then use it whenever you search the web or shop online."
