A BRICK was hurled from a bridge at a high speed train in Brockhill Lane, Norton.

The incident happened at around 9.45pm on Friday, July 15, hitting a London to Hereford service.

Police were sent to the scene and found the brick thought to have been used, but the offenders had already escaped the area.

The impact resulted in the driver’s cab window cracking, and the train later had to be taken out of service.

British Transport Police (BTP) say nobody was injured after the "irresponsible and dangerous act" but the train driver was left extremely shaken by what happened.

BTP say incidents like this often increase in the summer, during lighter nights and with more young people playing outside, so are asking parents and carers to stress the dangers at throwing items at trains and treating the railway as a playground.

On Monday, train services were plunged into chaos for hours after the line was blocked by a huge lump of concrete. A signalman spotted the concrete beam near Pershore, and was able to alert the driver of an oncoming train.

Police have been investigating whether the object was placed there deliberately.

Anyone with information on the brick throwing incident is asked to contact police by calling 0800 405040, quoting reference 678, or alternatively calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
