DETERMINATION goes a long way in the music business.

Fortunately, well-known Worcester singer songwriter Jamie Knight has got bags of it. And talent to boot.

Fronting the relatively new three-piece Knight, Othen & Smith (KOS), he is impressively positive about the way things are heading.

"There is a lot of new material and it's up tempo," he beamed. "It's just going really well.

"We're looking for management and a recording company and we are determined to play up and down the country."

He seems similarly pleased to be playing alongside guitarist Simon Othen and bassist Paul Smith, describing their collective sound as acoustic with soul - "a bit like Crowded House". He cites the likes of Damien Rice, Ray LaMontagne and David Gray as influences and when he talks about their future, he bubbles with excitement.

"Simon is just so versatile and Paul's been playing for a long time; he's got real experience," said Knight.

Putting his all into KOS invariably means Knight's solo career is being put on hold.

"This is it now, I'm concentrating on the band," he said.

On Friday, June 15, Knight, Othen & Smith are performing at Worcester's Huntingdon Hall. Later in the year they'll be playing The Lamb in Malvern and The Live and Let Live in Whitbourne.
