THE principal of Tudor Grange has spoken of her sadness at the removal of a mural created by pupils.

The large, colourful artwork has decorated the side of United Footwear on The Tything, Worcester since 2010.

It was created by year seven pupils when the school first opened, along with graffiti artists David Brown and Matt Reeves and depicts the city's landmarks, motto and civil war history.

But part of it has been removed this week to make way for a new glazed shop front with a recessed step entrance.

Principal Sam Roach said: "It is sad to see the mural come down as it has served as a reminder of the incredible journey this school has been on over the past seven years.

"The students who helped paint the mural have graduated in Year 13 this year and will always have fond memories of painting our school name on what was a great piece of art representing the history of this fine city.

"We would be delighted to be involved with a new mural if the opportunity arose."

The planning committee report said: "The alterations would result in the mural being lost but it had been suggested that the school who had done it be contacted to see if they wished to do another.

"The Committee had suggested maybe the side elevation or maybe on roller shutter doors which had been suggested to the applicant, but not on the street elevation."

It was approved on Thursday, June 23.
