PUPILS from Christopher Whitehead Language College too part in a day of events celebrating Classical Studies at Kings College London.

There were lectures from Professor Edith Hall and a stand up comedy performance from Radio 4's Natalie Haynes.

Students also took part in a play with postgraduate students from the Classics faculty.

The St Johns school is one of only a few state schools that offers Classical Civilisation.

Over the next year the school will be involved in a national campaign in order to spread the teaching of the subject to more secondary schools.

Simon Beasley one of the Classics teachers said: "It has been a really exciting time for the department over this past year.

"We have been involved in projects with universities and other schools to ensure that all students have access to this incredible and useful subject.

"Next year will see some big events supported by likes of Mary Beard and Edith Hall and we are really privileged to be a part of it".
