AN Upton Snodsbury Primary School pupil has won a national award for his poem.
Yanny Zaynchovsky was presented with a canvas of his winning poem by author Christina Gabbitas as part of the Poems and Pictures.
She said: “This is fantastic news for Yanny, there were thousands of entries from the UK and United Arab Emirates, he has done extremely well.
"We had a judge from the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood this year, as well as a number of educationalists, the Poetry Society, authors, illustrators and poets."
The children at Upton Snodsbury were treated to storytelling sessions as part of the prize for entering the initiative.
Christina Gabbitas read from her Felicity Fly series with sixteen different character accents.
Yanny also received a selection of books as a prize.
His poem will appear in a national poetry book, entitled Music and Artists, which will be available from September with proceeds going to charity Barnardo’s.
The poetry and illustrations from the competition will be showcased at various venues in the UK, including the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood in 2017/2018.
