PARENTS of St George’s Primary School pupils raised almost £5,000 by climbing the three tallest mountains in Britain.

The seven climbers completed the Three Peaks Challenge on Friday, July 1, in 23 hours and 45 minutes.

Donations will go to The Friends of St George’s RC Primary School Worcester and Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire.

The parents will give a cheque to Age UK at St George’s RC Primary School’s summer fayre on July 15.

The other half of the donations will help St George’s Primary School to buy a £3,000 smart board.

Jeremy Arnold, one of the parents taking part in the challenge, said: “Looking at our map and our watch, we knew it was going to be touch and go whether the group would complete it on time.

“Of course, we did. Lars and myself, only finished four minutes behind our friends, at 4.53pm. Overall we did it with fifteen minutes to spare.

“After a quick celebratory pint in Capel Curig, our drivers Liz and Kate drove the three hours back to Worcester.”

The group walked more than 150 miles and ascended over 10,000m in preparation for the challenge.

Blisters, sprains, and general aches were all part of the build-up, according to the parents.

The donations to Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire will help to support older people and their carers.

Those attempting the Three Peaks Challenge have to climb the three largest mountains in Britain; Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

The parents spent 12 hours and 45 minutes walking and 11 hours driving over the course 24 hours.

Jez Arnold, Lars Frederiksen, Kurt Grazier, Lorraine Mace, Dave Palfreyman, Justin Siegel and Ben Watts all took part in the challenge.
