A WOMAN whose daughter and granddaughter battled breast cancer organised an open garden event to provide a blooming marvellous boost to Worcester's breast unit.
Doris Francis, aged 92, of Kempsey, raised over £260 this weekend by helping to arrange a series of garden walkabouts in the village.
The funds will go towards supporting the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven based at 220 Newtown Road, Worcester, next to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester.
On Saturday four gardens were open across Kempsey for all to visit including Mrs Francis’s in Ellsdon.
The sun shone as people from the village flocked to the various gardens including that of John and Janet Webster in Oakfield Close whose garden also features a large model railway.
John and Sue Harrison of Oakfield Drive offered a vintage car display and Mr and Mrs Morrison of Napleton Lane also hosted an open garden.
Refreshments were available while donations were asked to be made to the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.
Mrs Francis said: “Both my daughter and granddaughter have had breast cancer and all three of us have raised thousands of pounds to help get the breast unit open.
"Now that it is, my friends in Kempsey and I wanted to carry on supporting the new Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven and so decided to host an garden open day.
"We were thrilled with the amount raised by our friends and neighbours.”
