HUNDREDS created a splash of colour when they took part in a special St Richard's Hospice fundraiser.

More than 350 took part in the Rainbow Run at the new University of Worcester Lakeside Campus, previously known as the Top Barn Activity Centre in Holt Heath, on Sunday, July 10.

Participants walked, jogged and ran the 2.5 or five kilometre route, and were showered with the colours of the rainbow.

Organisers are hoping the events has raised more than £20,000 for the hospice which cares for patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

This figure if raised will be able to fund an experienced nurse specialist, offering home help, for five months.

The hospice's community fundraiser, Charlie Homer, said: “We really appreciate everyone who took part and all the volunteers who helped make it so special.

"The atmosphere was brilliant with everyone enjoying the fun.

"It was great to see individuals, colleagues and families running together, many remembering someone special.”

Participant Lynne Freeman said: “It was a great way to spend a Sunday morning, and more importantly for a great cause.”

Abi McPherson added: “Great event, well organised and fantastic that my nine year old niece could run in memory of her grandma.”
