AN award-winning Worcester film-maker has picked another industry accolade.

Simon Bovey, of Warndon, Worcester, was crowned best new film-maker at the Media Talent Awards after impressing judges with his fresh style and creative story-telling ability.

An ambitious film-maker, Mr Bovey has gained a reputation as one of the leading science fiction writers for the digital station BBC 7. His unconventional and action-packed series, In Cold Blood, was the most requested repeat in the station's history.

His short films, including A Soldier's Tunic, The Waiting and more recently The Un-Gone, have received critical acclaim. The later has been screened at a number of festivals, notably at the Curzon Soho, Lund Fantastisk Film Festival - Scandinavia's most important science fiction festival - and the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival.

Mr Bovey was presented with his award at a ceremony in Birmingham on Friday, June 1.

The awards, which cover television, film, radio, games, animation and digital media, are designed to promote the talent in the West Midlands region.

Hereford-based business the Rural Media Company was awarded the honour of Outstanding Achievement for its work, including the setting up of a regional network of media people.
