THIS year’s summer fair in St George’s Square raised record amounts for the church in Banbourne.

More than £3,000 was raised at the event on Saturday, which will go towards outreach projects and church refurbishments.

Elisabeth Witter, the organiser of the fair for the past nine years, said: “We were so incredibly lucky with the weather, we had amazing stalls and a wonderful atmosphere.

“Moving through the fair you got all those different atmospheres. I want to thank all those who came and who helped organise it.”

A talent show was held alongside a variety of stalls selling cakes, jewellery and homemade crafts.

Gareth Evans, organiser of Barbourne’s Got Talent said: “It was as superb as ever. This is the first year we have hooked up with Youthcomm radio.”

Tash Hurdiss, a pupil at the Worcester School of Rock and Performance, won the show’s secondary school category with her guitar playing and singing.

As Tash, 15, won in the senior category, she will be the first person to perform at Worcester’s Youthcomm Minifest next year.

Rebecca Woodman, 11, won the primary school category with her singing performance.

Mr Evans, 53, said: “Next year we want to spend a bit more time getting schools to send their pupils to show others what they can do.”

Children from three to 15 years old took part in the primary and secondary school categories of the competition.

The winner in each category won £25 each and the next fair is set to take place on the second Saturday of July 2017.
