A FORMER serviceman and his wife from Malvern, who have raised thousands through various challenges over the years, organised a successful charity quiz ahead of their latest fundraising challenge.

The Star Inn, in Cowleigh Road, was the venue for the quiz evening and raffle held on Sunday, June 12.

The quiz was run by Paul and Sheron Morton, with the help of Brenda and Ken from the pub, and it managed to raise an impressive £368.

The quiz was held ahead of the main fundraising event when Paul and Sheron, Broadlands Drive residents, will be taking on the Chemin de la Liberte - one of the toughest Second World War escape routes across the Pyreness from France, into Spain.

The trip, being held between August 21 and 26, will see the pair in a team of six up at 2,500 metres facing eight to 10 hours of trekking each day in the mountains.

The money from the quiz and from the fundraiser is going towards supporting injured veterans through a newly created joint venture between Skiing with Heroes, and the Wounded Veterans Fund.

Mr Morton said: "We were once again humbled by the contributions made by the local community in this little area of Malvern who come together on such evenings to make a real difference for our veterans.

"We also had some outstanding prizes donated from local Malvern businesses.

"The funds we raise are very important to allow the charity to carry on its work across mentoring, pain management and life coaching for the veterans.

"The other element that gets missed however is the ability to provide job placements for the veterans so they can get some civilian work experience to assist in getting them back into full time employment.

"If there are any businesses out there who think they can help, then I would welcome them getting in touch with me."
