SCHOOLCHILDREN helped open a new supermarket on the site of the former The Lakes pub on Ambleside Drive.

Children from Fairfield Community Primary School were invited to mark the grand opening of the Midcounties Co-operative Food by cutting the ribbon on Wednesday.

They also took part in an exclusive tour of the 2,500 sq ft store which is £500,000 investment and created 25 new jobs.

The former pub now houses a fresh bakery and will also stock 30 local products from farmers and producers in the area.

Dale Hudspith, store manager at The Midcounties Co-operative Food at The Lakes, said: “It was great to welcome the local children from Fairfield Community Primary School to mark our grand opening and see the first shoppers visit the new store.

“We’re committed to investing in Worcester and making a positive impact to the local community, and with our new store we’ve been able to create 25 new jobs and support a range of local suppliers that we know will be a hit with our customers.”
