INTIMATE is what Clive John does best. "I'm not really a showy person," he admits. "I just like to sing and play my guitar."

Later this month, Clive will launch his sixth album, entitled Time, with exactly that idea in mind.

Clive wants his informal gig at Worcester's Marr's Bar, to be as relaxed as possible.

"I'm really pleased with the album," he said.

"I worked on it for 10 months and there was a lot of pressure to get it finished, but I wanted to choose the best songs for it."

Time consists of all new material, bar five covers, including a wonderful version of Good Year For The Roses.

Clive, from Malvern, has always been a songwriter, although with a young son and a new baby on the way, finding the time to sit down and write isn't always easy.

"Writing just happens," he said. "But my life is so busy at the moment it's hard to find the time.

"This is probably going to be my last album for a while, which is why we put a lot into it.

"I've done all the guitar work on it and a lot of the backing vocals. There is double bass, violin and cello."

Clive is a prolific performer with an army of loyal fans all over the UK, not to mention one or two celebrity supporters.

Not only do Chris Rea and Rolf Harris count Clive John as part of their record collection, Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell is planning to cover his track, Takes Two To Tango.

The Clive John Album Launch takes place at the Marr's Bar, in Worcester, on Thursday, June 21.

Tickets are £5 in advance and £7 on the door. For more information or to order a copy of the CD go to www.myspace.com/clivejohn
