A 23-year-old Worcester man was arrested following a drunken row with his girlfriend.

Jason George, of Bath Road, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday, where he admitted drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Syma Akhtar, prosecuting, said: "Officers were called following a domestic incident, where witnesses alleged a male was assaulting an unknown female, who was in the company of a friend.

"The defendant was drunk and abusive towards officers. Neither female made any allegation of assault, nor were there any visible signs of injuries or distress."

Miss Akhtar said both parties were advised to part company following the incident, which happened in Bromyard Road in St John's at 6pm, on Friday, May 25, but George ignored this and followed the women.

Andrew Childs, defending, said one of them was George's long-term girlfriend.

"He is the first to say it is quite a volatile relationship," he said. "Unfortunately, when drink comes into play, they can often raise their voices."

Mr Childs said when sober, George was a "personable, respectful and pleasant guy".

"It is clear when he drinks all those features go," he added.

"He doesn't appear to have the willpower to stop drinking by himself."

He said George was awaiting medical intervention to tackle his drink problem. He was fined £40 and ordered to pay £60 court costs.
