OFFICERS from the county and district councils in Worcestershire will be dressing the part during a week of events to promote recycling.

The members of the councils' recycling teams are donning can-can skirts and will be doing a dance as they tour the county to press home the recycling message.

Recycling officers from Malvern Hills, Wychavon, Wyre Forest, Bromsgrove, Worcester and Hereford will join county council staff in a bid to encourage more people to recycle their waste, and get those who are already recycling to do even more.

Debra Parker, recycling and waste management officer for Malvern Hills District Council, said: "Our main aim is to encourage people to recycle more and more often.

"We want to show people what their items can be recycled into. People are interested to see what happens when their waste is recycled."

She said plastic bottles can be recycled into fleecy clothing, garden furniture, drain pipes and compost bins while glass can be recycled into fibreglass and road aggregate as well as more glass items.

"We want to inspire people and show them it is really worthwhile," she said.
