A MAN convicted of rape 17 years ago carried out two more sex attacks on a 12-year-old girl and a pregnant woman.

Nigel Knighton groped the woman on Hartlebury Common, near Stourport-on-Severn, after offering her a lift home from a bingo hall.

He also went into the girl's bedroom while at a party, kissed her on the lips and asked if could fondle her chest, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Ian Speed, prosecuting, said that in 1990 Knighton was sentenced to five years in jail for raping a girl aged eight at the Chain Wire club in Stourport.

Knighton, aged 35, of East Road, Stourport, admitted two counts of sexual assault. He was given an indeterminate sentence for public protection and must serve a minimum of two years before being considered for release by the parole board.

Judge Richard Rundell said he was a "dangerous person" who posed a serious risk to children.

Knighton went to a party in Bromsgrove on September 26 last year and was noticed going upstairs a number of times.

The girl complained to her father and when challenged he denied doing anything.

On December 4, Knighton dropped his mother off, before driving a woman he knew from his college days to the common, said Mr Speed. She rejected his advances but he "leapt on to her" and fondled her.

Nigel Hall, defending, said his offending had cost him his relationship and job. His family had disowned him.

Knighton blamed problems in his childhood and recognised he needed therapy. Mr Hall said he misread the signs from the woman.
