DETECTIVES hunting a rapist who attacked a woman in broad daylight as she walked to work in Worcester have traced two key witnesses.

The woman was raped as she walked along a Ronkswood alleyway at 9.15am on Friday, May 18.

The man and woman came forward after local media published an appeal and CCTV pictures of them appeared on our website www.worcesternews.co.uk "The man and woman have both been interviewed and provided statements that have corroborated previously un-confirmed information already to hand," said a police spokesman.

The incident happened in an alleyway between Aconbury Close and Leopard Rise and leading from Newtown Road to Woodgreen Drive, near to Tolladine golf course.

The CCTV pictures showed the two people walking in opposite directions near the scene: Officers are continuing to follow up information resulting from the publication of an e-fit image of the attacker and want the public to continue to make suggestions as to who they think he is.

Police say the man is white, in his early 20s, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall and thin with shoulder-length, greasy brown hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a grey T-shirt.

But they have warned he may well have changed his appearance since the attack.

"It is, of course, possible that he may have changed his appearance by having his hair cut and/or re-styled," added the spokesman.

"There also remains a possibility that he could attempt to offend again and until he is caught we continue to advise all women on foot in Ronkswood to walk with someone else and/or find a different route if their normal one takes them into relatively remote secluded areas."

Anyone who recognises the image or description - or has any other information - is urged to contact police on 08457 444 888, quoting 475S/210507. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
