THE final preparations are being made for celebrations to mark the Queen's 90th birthday in Worcester.

A host of events are scheduled to take place, including a spectacular 90-boat flotilla on the River Severn from 1pm on Saturday, June 11.

There will be events and activities for children at The Hive on Saturday, while a group of 90 year olds will celebrate the occasion at a tea party at Worcester's Guildhall.

Meanwhile children from across the county will come together for a Big Sing event at the University of Worcester Arena and the charity Go Dad Run event will take place at Worcester Racecourse.

The Lord Lieutenant, Lt Col Patrick Holcroft said: "This weekend shows Worcestershire coming together to celebrate Her Majesty's 90th Birthday. There really is something for all ages and it promises to be a most enjoyable weekend."

Across the weekend, residents will take to the streets in their respective areas to celebrate the milestone birthday, and on Sunday a special service will be held at the cathedral from 4pm.

Worcestershire County Council has been running a video archive project to celebrate the Queen's birthday year, and is still calling for people to record their memories of the monarch and send them in.

The 90 years in 90 seconds project aims to create a snapshot of this moment in history for future generations.

Every video submitted will be archived by Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service supported by Media Archive Central England (MACE).
