POST Office bosses have agreed to attend a public meeting this week to answer questions about its controversial plans to relocate into WH Smith.

Worcester City Council has also invited representatives from WH Smith to its scrutiny meeting on Wednesday to justify proposals to move the post office from Foregate Street into the High Street store.

The meeting - at 7pm at the Guildhall, Worcester - is open to the public.

The council is against the move, along with Worcester MP Mike Foster and scores of people who live in the city.

Councillor Geoff Williams, chairman of the scrutiny committee, said: "This is a good opportunity for scrutiny to really investigate what will be the benefits or disadvantages of the proposed move.

"Clearly, there are concerns about the move, both over the access to the new post office and on the levels of service provided."

Senior post office manager Craig Tuthill; Richard Hall, senior external head of relations at the Post Office, and Sally Peach, of WH Smith, are due to appear at the meeting.

The Post Office is halfway through a six-week public consultation about services in the new branch.

Michael Dalton, head of external relations at the Post Office, said: "Between them, the three will answer all the committee's questions."
