ALMOST 150 people have signed an online petition calling for the speed limit on a stretch of a Worcestershire road to be cut.
In April, the Worcester News revealed Jim Turner, head of King's Hawford School, between Ombersley and Claines, had posted a petition on the Downing Street website calling for the speed limit on this stretch of the A449 to be reduced from 70mph to 50mph.
Now 147 people have signed up, adding to the 2,000 names already on the paper version.
The petitions, which also call for the introduction of measures to improve road safety, are due to be presented to the Highways Agency, which is responsible for the road, and then to Worcestershire County Council, which takes over this responsibility when the road is detrunked on Sunday, July 1.
On the website, Mr Turner reveals this stretch has claimed the lives of 12 people in nine years, with a further 69 being injured.
