A CLASSICAL guitarist is launching his new record in Worcester this month.

Teacher and performer Robin Harriott is holding a launch party for Danza: Five Centuries of Dance Music at the Art House Cafe, in CrownGate, on Saturday, June 30.

This is the second CD from the musician who divides his time between Worcester and the Greek islands of Skopelos.

Featuring instrumental dance music from France, Spain, Greece and South America and pieces by Dowland, JS Bach, Lauro, Fampas and Ruiz-Pipo, the CD takes its name from the final track and is a celebration of The Dance as it has been interpreted by dozens of different composers over the years.

Harriott will give a brief recital during the launch party as well as signing copies of his previous recording Pieces for Lute, Vihuela and Guitar.

* A NEW music venue is proving popular in Upton-upon-Severn.

The Star Hotel, in the High Street, has added music to its menu and, every Sunday afternoon, bands perform in the lounge and entry is free. Open session nights take place on Wednesday, when there is an "any level, any instruments, any voice, everybody welcome" policy.

On Saturday, June 30, Irish band Pholklaw headline the venue's first Irish folk night, which will raise money for Acorns Children's Hospice in Bath Road, Worcester.

Tickets for that night cost £12.50 and include supper and a raffle.
