ONE of Malvern's 11 council play areas could be given a £50,000 facelift during the coming year.
Malvern Town Council is considering rejuvenating the Dukes Meadow play area following an inspection by the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT).
While CAPT reports that the council is up to date on its maintenance of its play areas, it says some of the equipment at Dukes Meadow will need replacing in the next two to three years as it will not meet the required standards. The rest of the equipment must be replaced in the next five to 10 years.
In his report to the council's operations committee, which meets on Tuesday June 5, operations manager Charles Porter says: "The number of users increases yearly and so the life span may be reduced. The CAPT inspector considers Dukes Meadow to be the prime site for modernisation."
The full town council has approved a budget of £50,000 for the 2007/2008 financial year to replace the Dukes Meadow play area.
The committee will studytenders for the work submitted by four companies.
