BLOOD donors in Worcestershire are being thanked by the National Blood Service for their life-saving contributions.

Hospitals in the Midlands need about 800 units of blood every day and each day 800 volunteers roll up their sleeves and give a pint of their blood to replenish stocks.

To mark next week's National Volunteer Week the service is thanking existing donors and urging others to join up. Jayne Harman, of the National Blood Service, said: "Our volunteers are such fantastic people and we just can't thank them enough. Their input is invaluable and so important."

To be a blood donor you need to be between 17 and 59 years old, weigh more than 7st 12lbs (50kg) and be in general good health.
