The rain has been blamed for causing a spate of road traffic accidents across the two counties.

Six people were injured in an accident on the M5 this afternoon and there were three other accidents at the same time. It is thought that the sudden downpour just before 2pm could have been the reason.

The four-car collision on the M5 happened between junctions five and six at 1.50pm.

Four ambulance crews, an Incident Officer, Rapid Response vehicle, Patient Transport Service vehicle and the Warwickshire and Northants Air Ambulance all responded and crews treated the six casualties at the scene.

One male in his 20s suffered chest injuries and, as a precaution, was immobilised on a spinal board before being taken to Worcester Royal Hospital for assessment.

Another male in his 50s received a head injury and was also placed on a spinal board and taken to the Royal. A family of four, including a five year old and a baby, suffered minor injuries in the accident but were also taken to hospital for further assessment.

At about 2.30pm a man driving on Dinmore Hill, near Leominster, needed treatment after his car rolled onto its roof. He was later conveyed to Hereford County Hospital.

A further incident took place in Belbroughton Road, Clent, at 3pm. Again a car had rolled and a man had to be treated at the scene.

Just before 4pm, an ambulance crew were called to the A44 at Bingsty Common, near the Wheatsheaf Public House, after an incident involving a lorry and camper van.

One male, believed to be in his 60s, was treated at the scene, but did not require hospitalisation.
