PERSHORE Snooker Club is hoping to get the environmental ball rolling in the town by committing to reduce its carbon footprint.
The club has launched a campaign to cut down on emissions and go greener than the baize covering most of its tables.
As well as helping the environment themselves, the members hope their actions will prove a catalyst for others in the town to follow their carbon-cutting lead.
Pershore Snooker Club committee member Nobby Klarke said: "We have found that about 80 per cent of people believe that climate change is having a serious impact but only about half of those people are doing anything about reducing their emissions.
"We have a number of ideas in place. Next week we have somebody coming in to look at our lighting system, we are installing an efficient condensing boiler and introducing a turn it off' scheme so no lights are left on. We also want to cut our utilities bill by 20 per cent over the next three years.
"We have decided to do something about climate change and hope that it catches on in Pershore so that others will do the same."
The club would also like to install solar panels after the idea was put forward by a member. The panels are quite expensive but if membership increases, it could become a real possibility.
Mr Klarke added: "We have about 60 members at present, but if that number goes up, we could buy solar panels, which is a marvellous idea. Our members have to be over the age of 18 and anyone who wants to join can pop into the club."
