LADIES are being invited to dress up in style at a special charity event at Worcester Racecourse.

The Betfair ladies day on Saturday, June 2, is an annual event in aid of St Richard's Hospice.

More than 140 people will join best-selling author Jilly Cooper and race horse owner Jim Lewis in the St Richard's marquee.

Mr Lewis, who lives in Callow End, is a patron of the hospice and owner of the late Best Mate, three-times winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

St Richard's fund-raising manager Tricia Cavell said: "This is always a wonderful, relaxed occasion and we are delighted to welcome Jilly Cooper this year to join Jim and all the other guests. We're hoping the hospitality packages, auction and raffle will help us to raise about £30,000 towards the cost of caring for our patients and families."

The day will include a competition for the best dressed lady, most elegant hat and best dressed little lady under 16.

Miss Worcester Jodi Edwards will be among the judges.

St Richard's moved into its £5.25 million hospice in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, at the end of last year. It cares for 1,600 patients and families each year.

Fund-raisers are now hard at work generating the £3.2 million which needs to be raised this year to provide the ongoing specialist care and support for patients and families.
