GRANDPARENTS from across Worcestershire returned to the classroom for a special event at a county school.

King's Hawford, near Worcester, hosted a grandparents day, allowing pupils to be joined by their grandparents for a day of activities. They were entertained by the children, who performed a 1960s show, with dances to numbers by the Beatles. A slide show celebrated events from the 1960s such as England's World Cup victory and moon landings.

Grandparents were given tours of the school by their grandchildren before a street party. The highlight of the day was a visit by a Punch and Judy Show and a barbecue, cooked up specially by the head, Jim Turner.

Mr Turner said: "It was a terrific opportunity for our grandparents to experience a little of how today's schools work. Our children looked forward to showing off their school to their grandparents and the day also builds on the family atmosphere we value so highly."

Grandparent Jill Evans-Fisher, whose two grandsons attend the school, said: "It has been a really wonderful day. We enjoyed dancing and singing and having the chance to see the school and how the children are getting on."
