A NEW pocket guide has been launched in the county, designed to help keep children and young people safe.

The Practitioner's Guide to Safeguarding and Promoting the Welfare of Children booklet, produced by Worcestershire Safeguarding Children Board, is a quick reference point for all people who work with children and young people and helps them recognise when they should be concerned about a child and what action to take.

Ten thousand copies of the leaflet will be distributed to a wide range of agencies across the county, including the six district councils, the probation service, further education colleges, and voluntary and community organisations.

Worcestershire Safeguarding Children Board was created in 2005, following the Children Act 2004, and took up the work of the Area Child Protection Committee.

It looks to forge even closer working links between the various agencies charged with keeping Worcestershire's children and young people as safe as possible.
